Siblings Australia offer support for siblings of children and adults with chronic conditions. This includes disability, chronic illness and mental health issues. Siblings can often be overlooked, which can lead to feelings of isolation. If this continues, children can become vulnerable to a range of emotional and mental health problems. However, if siblings are acknowledged, and connected to sources of support, they are likely to become more resilient and family relationships are likely to be stronger. Siblings Australia aims to create connections between siblings, parents and siblings, and between families and professionals. Their focus is on strengthening families. They offer information and support services for siblings of people with chronic conditions, through increasing awareness, understanding and skills. The Director, Kate Strohm, has been asked to present workshops for parents and professionals all over Australia, in Italy (4 times), Scotland, England, US and Canada. The professional workshop can also include training in the Sibworks model for peer support for siblings aged 8-12 years. This blog provides some reflections of a workshop by a parent. The Functional Family Sharon is an ADHD coach who is passionate about helping people with ADHD have functional and fun lives. Sharon uses her lived experience, 13 years of research and formal training at ADDCA to help and support those living with ADHD. When Sharon's first son was diagnosed with ADHD she felt incredibly alone. She had listened to her husband's trauma filled stories about growing up misunderstood with ADHD and didn't want her little boy to have the same experience.  She began researching and studying ADHD and developing systems and strategies to work with the ADHD brain. She realised that she could change the environment around her family to work with everyone's strengths. She loves anything that makes life with ADHD easier! Sharon's company, The Functional Family, has assisted over 35,000 families and individuals with ADHD. The Functional Family offers: - one on one ADHD coaching; - parent mentoring; - a blog full of free tools and insights; - a large free online support group; - the ADHD Families Podcast; - a low cost monthly membership; and - a 6 week online program, ADHD and Families. She wants to help people with ADHD get back their time, decrease their burnout risk, but most importantly create space for the good stuff!

Twice Exceptional Educational Consultancy Rhonda Filmer - BA GradDipEd, COGE, M.EdAdmin (UNSW) & Chair of SPELD NSW I take appointments to discuss the learning profiles of bright and gifted children (but no-one is excluded – this is just my specialty) when there is underachievement and even failure to thrive at school. Often, there is undiagnosed ADHD or ADHD (PIP), sometimes with Specific Learning Disabilities as well. I do standardised Achievement testing and report to families and schools, I accompany parents to Learning Support team meetings at school to explain the challenges faced by children with ADHD and to demonstrate the need for remediation/ curricular adjustments. I also tutor students who have fallen behind their expected levels of achievement and progress at school and/or extend them in their areas of learning strength.
