Melinda Gindy - Vice President The Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented (AAEGT) came into existence in May 1985 as a result of a growing recognition among educators of the need for the establishment of a national body as a focus for the endeavours of Australian teachers and parents in the field of gifted education. The founders of AAEGT were driven by the need for a national forum that provided accurate information, as well as support, advocacy and networks across the nation. AAEGT became an affiliated organisation in 1995 when all Australian state and territory associations for the gifted and talented affiliated with AAEGT. It was agreed that through affiliation the national body could truly represent all states and territories and duplication of effort between what the AAEGT was trying to achieve and what the state and territory associations were providing could be minimised. The work of the AAEGT Council during 1994 and 1995 created this affiliated organisation in support of the gifted and talented in all their diversity. The purpose for which the AAEGT is established is to advance education by promoting and protecting the educational entitlement and well-being of the gifted & talented. The...

National Centre for Excellence for Complex Trauma Blue Knot Foundation actively advocates for systemic change in the community, and for government policy. Historically, the needs of Australian adult survivors of childhood trauma and abuse have not been a community or government priority. The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse was ground-breaking. The National Redress Scheme, from July 1 2018-2028 is also a watershed achievement. But much more needs to be done to address the needs of all adults experiencing childhood trauma and abuse. Blue Knot Foundation is not able, however, to provide individual advocacy services to survivors. A 2016 study by Brown et al. established that children with ADHD have higher exposure to adverse childhood experiences than children without ADHD.  It also showed a significant association between ACE score, ADHD and moderate to severe ADHD. Additionally children who have experienced trauma and traumatic stress can experience a range of symptoms which overlap with those of ADHD, with the risk of misdiagnosis significant (Symanski et al., 2011). Dr Arancha Gonzalez - Consultant Paediatrician & VMO Paediatrics at Ryde Hospital My name is Arancha Gonzalez, and I am a general paediatrician, as well as a mother of 4 school aged children, who attend Mona Vale Public School. I choose to work part-time to ensure I am always present and available to support the needs of my own children, and I have elected to remain local to the northern beaches to serve and contribute to the tight knit community I am part of. My purpose is to provide personalised, great quality supportive care and follow-through to all children on the peninsula and beyond, that need it, from birth to leaving-school age. My aim to form therapeutic relationships with each child and his/her family while overseeing their care, providing ‘umbrella care’ to ensure no gaps exist, and there is no duplication of services. The range of care I provide extends from routine newborn care to encompass all aspects of children’s health, behaviour and development. For example, I manage common ailments like asthma, epilepsy, bedwetting, growth problems, children’ nutrition and weight management, developmental concerns, as well as ADHD, learning difficulties and autism.  My association with the excellent therapists of NBSLR has allowed the possibility of combining the medical and therapy models of care to provide...
