ADHD Support Group Nepean - Penrith Area   Support group for parents with children with ADHD,ADD and ODD with no judgement. A place to share and vent and support each other. Every day is a struggle and so many families are going through this alone. I want to set up a bricks and mortar support group for people to come along and share there stories or vent if need be. It helps knowing we are not alone. After doing the show I was surprised how many people and family members have come up to me and shared stories that were hidden away. There is still stigma attached to ADHD and growing up with it or dealing with it and our children. We all want to raise "normal" families and sometimes the reality is so much harder. Monthly meetings at the South Penrith Neighbourhood Centre, (behind Southlands Shopping Centre)

Melinda Gindy - Vice President The Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented (AAEGT) came into existence in May 1985 as a result of a growing recognition among educators of the need for the establishment of a national body as a focus for the endeavours of Australian teachers and parents in the field of gifted education. The founders of AAEGT were driven by the need for a national forum that provided accurate information, as well as support, advocacy and networks across the nation. AAEGT became an affiliated organisation in 1995 when all Australian state and territory associations for the gifted and talented affiliated with AAEGT. It was agreed that through affiliation the national body could truly represent all states and territories and duplication of effort between what the AAEGT was trying to achieve and what the state and territory associations were providing could be minimised. The work of the AAEGT Council during 1994 and 1995 created this affiliated organisation in support of the gifted and talented in all their diversity. The purpose for which the AAEGT is established is to advance education by promoting and protecting the educational entitlement and well-being of the gifted & talented. The...

National Centre for Excellence for Complex Trauma Blue Knot Foundation actively advocates for systemic change in the community, and for government policy. Historically, the needs of Australian adult survivors of childhood trauma and abuse have not been a community or government priority. The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse was ground-breaking. The National Redress Scheme, from July 1 2018-2028 is also a watershed achievement. But much more needs to be done to address the needs of all adults experiencing childhood trauma and abuse. Blue Knot Foundation is not able, however, to provide individual advocacy services to survivors. A 2016 study by Brown et al. established that children with ADHD have higher exposure to adverse childhood experiences than children without ADHD.  It also showed a significant association between ACE score, ADHD and moderate to severe ADHD. Additionally children who have experienced trauma and traumatic stress can experience a range of symptoms which overlap with those of ADHD, with the risk of misdiagnosis significant (Symanski et al., 2011).
