If you’ve never seen a psychologist or counsellor before, the first session can seem a bit scary!

Don’t worry, we understand that it is a big step to start facing up to the problems in our lives and we will do everything we can to make you feel comfortable and safe to open up and begin the changes needed to achieve peace and happiness.
The first session is an opportunity for you and your psychologist to get to know one another. It is to explore the problems and issues you want to work on, and to begin building a relationship with one another. Your psychologist will be working on understanding you – not just your problems, but what makes you tick, what makes you you, your values and what is important to you.
Psychologists listen without judgement. They are committed to accepting you as you are and working collaboratively with you to achieve your goals.
It is important to keep in mind that psychological therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix. Therapy is a healing process that requires participation and investment from the client and the psychologist alike. But ultimately, making progressive small changes to unhelpful thinking and behaviours allows us to cope with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain, and frees us to live our best life!
