Expanding Our Understanding of The Human Brain with Professor Charlie Teo

April 4 @ 7:00 pm-8:30 pm

Prof. Teo has spent over 30 years practising and studying neurosurgery. Of late, his focus has pivoted towards gaining a holistic understanding of the brain, diverging from traditional surgical approaches, to explore the brain’s connectivity. In the other words, how patterns of neural activity in the brain can help to explain, identify and guide treatment options for a variety of brain related conditions. His innovative work now melds neuroscience with mental health, aiming to bridge the divide between these two essential healthcare domains.

His recent ventures include the co-founding of Omniscient Neuro-Technologies, a ground breaking machine learning software company dedicated to expanding our understanding of the human brain. Furthermore, he acts as the Medical Director of Cingulum Health, an organisation at the forefront of fMRI-guided, neuro-navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

In his talk Prof. Teo will explore functional brain connectivity and how recent advancements in neuroscience can provide clinicians with a more profound understanding of brain function. While his work with fMRI brain mapping at Cingulum Health is not exclusively focused on ADHD, it opens new pathways for examining how the brain may be implicated in various co-morbid symptoms such as attentional control, cognition, mood variations, and hyper-vigilance, offering personalised TMS treatment programs in selected scenarios.
